K Dance Presents COMING OF AGE

Featuring Mosaic Trio and a Mid-Atlantic Premiere by John Winn, October 8 & 9, 2024

We can't escape it. We all do it. It's happening now.

In its newest production, COMING OF AGE, K Dance explores experiences of aging -- of time passing, things changing, and getting older -- with dancing and live music. COMING OF AGE is in performance on Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9 at 7:30pm at Firehouse Theatre. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at https://firehousetheatre.ludus.com/200462655.

COMING OF AGE includes the Mid-Atlantic premiere of Richmond-based composer John Winn’s Party Hopping, as well as K Dance Artistic Director Kaye Weinstein Gary’s visualization of works by composers George Enescu, Rebecca Burkhardt, and Robert Washut. The COMING OF AGE ensemble includes Mosaic Trio (Susanna Klein, violin; Julia Bullard, viola; Stephanie Barrett, cello) providing live music for a company of some of Ms. Gary's favorite dancer/actors including Andrew Etheredge, Gina Maria McKenzie, Melanie Richards...and Ms. Gary. Heidi Rugg of Puppets Off Broad Street has created wigs for COMING OF AGE.

COMPOSER

John Winn (composer Party Hopping) has composed music for independent film, Shakespearean stage productions, jazz ensembles, rock bands, and various chamber music configurations. He's currently working with Richmond playwright/actress Irene Ziegler to develop their new stage musical SAFETY. As a saxophonist/clarinetist, John has appeared onstage with music luminaries such as Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Bernadette Peters, Natalie Cole, Doc Severinsen, Idina Menzel, Johnny Mathis, Chita Rivera, Marie Osmond, and many others. John received Richmond Magazine’s Theresa Pollak Prize and the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Award for “Best Musical Direction” for DREAMGIRLS at VA Repertory Theatre.
